You know what to say. Then pressure changes the room.

The Presence Lab is a free practice space for capable leaders who want to stay clear, connected, and useful when the stakes rise.

You already know how to communicate. The hard part is keeping access to that skill when a board member pushes, the camera turns on, the conversation gets tense, or the plan falls apart.

Membership is free. Monthly live Q&A, Field Guides, early episodes, and the ideas I am still working on.

A familiar pattern

Why do capable leaders communicate differently under pressure?

Nothing happened to your intelligence. The conditions changed what you could reach.

You know the material. You have led the meeting before. You have answered harder questions. Then the stakes rise and something small changes. Your mind goes blank. Your pace climbs. You grip the plan harder. You explain three more things nobody asked about. You hear yourself doing it and, very helpfully, that adds another layer of pressure.

That is not a character flaw. It is a communication problem worth training for.

01

The answer disappears

You know it cold. The question lands. The room waits. Suddenly the file is there and you cannot open it.

02

The body gets there first

The breath gets shallow, the pace changes, the shoulders tighten, and the message has to fight through all of it.

03

The room changes the plan

A challenge, a technical failure, a hard question, or a tense reaction forces you to lead without the script you prepared.

The skill underneath the skill

What is nervous-system-first executive communication?

Most presentation training starts with the message. The Presence Lab starts one step earlier.

Structure matters. Stories matter. Slides, rehearsal, delivery and word choice all matter. They are simply harder to use when pressure has already narrowed attention, changed breathing, tightened the body, or made a familiar answer harder to retrieve.

The work here is not to eliminate nerves. The work is to stay available to your judgment, experience and message while the nerves are in the room with you.

Most communication training teaches you what to say. The Presence Lab trains the part of you that has to stay available so you can actually say it.

Free content vs. practice

Why join The Presence Lab if I already listen to the podcast?

Listening can change what you know. Practice changes what you can reach when the room gets hard.

The podcast

Recognize the pattern.

  • Hear one pressure problem taken apart each week.
  • Learn the mechanism and practical tools.
  • Use an episode when a problem sounds familiar.

The Presence Lab

Work on your version of it.

  • Use the Field Guides to turn the idea into a rep.
  • Bring a real situation to the monthly live Q&A.
  • Get early episodes and ideas before they are fully polished.
  • Keep the conversation going in Sphere with Dale and other members.

If the podcast gives you everything you need, keep listening. Seriously. The Lab is for the person who wants to move from, “That explains it,” to, “I know what I am going to do before the next room.”

What happens inside

What do Presence Lab members actually get?

Bring the moment you are actually facing. A board presentation. A client challenge. A hard employee conversation. A media interview. Your next all-hands. Start there.

Field Guides

Take the idea from an episode and put it on the desk in front of you. The guides turn the concept into prompts, drills and preparation you can use before the next high-pressure moment.

Monthly live Q&A with Dale

Bring the moment you are preparing for, or the one you just walked out of. Ask the question that gets harder when the room is real.

Early episodes and working ideas

Members get access to new episodes and the ideas still being worked out before everything is packaged neatly for public release.

The conversation between episodes

The Lab lives on Sphere. That is the container, not the benefit. The useful part is having a place to keep working on the communication moments that do not fit neatly into a podcast episode.

Practice, not a content vault

How does practice make executive presence more reliable?

Notice what pressure changes. Use the relevant Field Guide to prepare one response. Pressure-test it in Q&A, then run it in the real meeting, interview, presentation or conversation. Come back with what happened. That loop turns communication advice into readiness.

Why Dale built it

Who is Dale Dixon, and why did he build The Presence Lab?

I kept seeing capable people lose access to skills they already had.

I spent 15 years in broadcast news, where live meant live. I have spent more than 20 years coaching leaders through presentations, interviews, difficult questions and high-stakes moments. I wrote Sweating Bullets because pressure kept exposing the same gap.

A leader can know the material cold and still lose access when the stakes rise. That is the part I wanted to train more deliberately.

The Presence Lab is where that work continues after the podcast ends.

Fit matters

Who is The Presence Lab for?

This is for leaders who are already good enough to notice the difference between knowing the skill and having it available on demand.

You will probably get value here if you:

  • Lead meetings, presentations, teams, client conversations or Q&A.
  • Communicate well most of the time and want more reliability when the stakes rise.
  • Face board, media, investor, employee or customer moments where clarity carries consequences.
  • Want practical reps, not confidence slogans.

This is probably not the right fit if you:

  • Only want slide design, speaking polish or a memorized script.
  • Want a trick that makes nerves disappear permanently.
  • Are looking for another giant content library to binge and forget.
  • Do not intend to practice anything before the real moment arrives.

Questions worth answering

Questions about The Presence Lab

What is The Presence Lab?

The Presence Lab is a free online practice community created by Dale Dixon for executives, leaders and high-performing professionals who want to communicate clearly when pressure changes the way they think, speak or respond. The work is nervous-system-first: train the state that has to carry the message, not just the message itself.

How is The Presence Lab different from executive presence or presentation training?

Traditional training often begins with structure, delivery, slides, stories and wording. Those skills matter. The Presence Lab adds the layer underneath them: what happens when pressure changes attention, breathing, retrieval, pace or flexibility before the words arrive. The goal is not more polish. It is more reliable access to the skills you already have.

Why should I join if I already listen to The Presence Lab Podcast?

The podcast is built for discovery and learning. The community is built for application. Members get the Field Guides, monthly live Q&A with Dale, early episodes and working ideas, plus a place to bring the communication moment they are actually facing.

How often is the live Q&A?

The Presence Lab holds a live Q&A with Dale monthly. It is the place to bring a real high-pressure communication situation, ask the question behind the question, and work through what needs to be ready before the room.

Is The Presence Lab free?

Yes. The Presence Lab is free to join on Sphere.

Do I need to be a nervous public speaker to belong here?

No. This is not remedial public-speaking practice. Many members are experienced communicators. The common problem is that a specific kind of pressure can change access to a skill that works perfectly well under normal conditions.

What kinds of communication moments fit The Presence Lab?

Board presentations, executive meetings, live Q&A, media interviews, client challenges, difficult employee conversations, all-hands meetings, on-camera communication, and the moments when a plan changes in front of other people.

What happens after I join?
